Alternative Fuels Station NOW OPEN!

On November 28, 2006 the Shell station located at 12th and Vine Streets in Center City Philadelphia became the first station in the southeastern Pennsylvania to offer E85 and B20 to the public!

According to the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC), "E85 is the term for motor fuel blends of 85% ethanol and just 15% gasoline. E85 is an alternative fuel as defined by the U.S. Department of Energy. Besides its superior performance characteristics, ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline; it is a completely renewable, domestic, environmentally friendly fuel that enhances the nation's economy and energy independence."

E85 is easily used in a "Flex Fuel Vehicle" (FFV), a car, van or truck that is capable of burning either E85 or conventional gasoline.  Many of the new automobiles out on the market are FFV.  Check with your dealer or the car manufacturer to see if your vehicle is FFV.  Or for a complete list of FFVs visit www.e85fuel.com/ff_vehicles.htm.  For a list of dealers in Philadelphia offering FFVs click HERE.

From The National Biodiesel Board: "Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics."
